The new Segregator Drum in Croydon Head Post Office. A segregator drum rotates and disperses mail allowing smaller packets and letters to drop through the slats and larger parcels to be deposited at the bottom. Sorting, either by hand or by machine, can then take place. The automation of mail sorting has developed significantly since the 1960s.
